A note from Jim Harris, president of the Connecticut High School Fencing Association... Coaches - Congratulations to all of you on another successful season of Connecticut fencing. This year we witnessed continued growth in epee, an expansion of the number of teams competing in the state championships, and a marked increase in the number of athletes participating in our sport. This year's individual foil championship was, in my opinion, one of the deepest and most challenging in the history of Connecticut fencing. I would also like to take the opportunity to once again thank Al Kiem, Hank Powell, Daryl Schlender and all of their students and volunteers for organizing and putting on an excellent (and efficient!) state championship series. A very hearty thank you goes to Paul Luciano, who managed to run the events virtually without incident (and have us all home at a reasonable hour). If there is interest, I would like to schedule an off-season meeting sometime in the near future to discuss several items that tend to get overlooked at our annual meeting. Among these items would be choosing the dates/locations for next year's championships, discussing ways of identifying new coaches, how to improve our website, and how we can continue our growth as a sport. Before scheduling this meeting, I would like to poll each of you to see if there is interest. Regards, James Harris Head Coach, North Haven High School Chair, CT High School Fencing Coaches Assoc.
